Bringing SNMP and Legacy Together...

It would be a simpler world if all DPS equipment had to do was talk to itself and contemporary devices & RTU's. Our engineering teams wouldn't work any overtime, our monitoring topologies would become cookie cutter, and of course our customers would have a lot less money.

Why? Because you would have to throw out every legacy piece of equipment and alarm collection device that doesn't natively speak SNMP. You would have to spend lots of capital budget as well as manpower resources to upgrade transport equipment, switching equipment, power systems, and environmental systems. Though we are all migrating at various rates to: Higher bandwidth, SNMP, Modern, Better, Advanced, etc, - The truth of the matter is that we all still have a lot of older gear that just CAN'T be replaced right now or all in one chunk.

This is what we call Legacy. Legacy exists in network infrastructure, including some alarm monitoring gear itself. At DPS provide the bridge between the old and the new. We provide smooth transitions between where you are and where you want to be with your network monitoring plans. This issue will provide insight into the ways you CAN IMPROVE your current legacy situation.

I'm also pleased to announce "DPS Ultimate Care" for your DPS RTU's. Previously, only T/Mon users had the benefit of extended coverage. "DPS Ultimate Care" when combined with our standard 2 year hardware warranty provides coverage for 7 FULL YEARS, plus lots of extras.

Best Regards,

DPS Goes Way Beyond Basic Remotes and Masters...

Specific Diversity is not an oxymoron, but a philosophy we apply to our product lines. For over 20+ years DPS has focused our attention specifically towards the telecommunications market. Within that market, we concentrate on alarm monitoring solutions - and the peripherals and technologies that support those functions.

Within that segment, however, we offer a very diverse product portfolio that goes far beyond basic alarm remotes and masters. For example, let's look at alarm remotes: Do you want small, medium or large capacity? Do you have legacy polling lines or do you need LAN & SNMP? What about Dialup, Fiber, T1, and wireless transport? Are your RTU's in an environmentally controlled CO or do they have to be tough enough to run in your outside plant? What voltages do you operate on? What type of termination?

I could go on and on with alarm remotes. But I could also go into our other solutions such as: Order wire solutions to support communications between on site techs, master stations, alarm signal conditioners, terminal severs, switches, sensors, alarm enunciators, alarm echo devices, alarm replicators, alarm mediation, and (most of all) industry knowledge and trends that we share with our alarm community.

This month I'm pleased to continue that tradition of diversity and enhancements by announcing our new HTTPS web browser security to the most recent version of our NetGuardian G5 platform.

Best Regards,

President's Letter: June 2008

This issue, we are featuring two white papers. For those of you that have been our clients and Protocol subscribers for some period of time, you might have noticed that we have authored quite a number of white papers.

Why do we take the considerable amount of time, resources and share the practical experience that our company has amassed over man-centuries of experience? Because we believe that if a person knows more about a subject, it will enable him or her to make an informed decision. We focus on getting all of the relevant information on a topic to create an easy-to-use paper that provides an understanding of the subject matter without having to read 10 books on the subject. That's assuming of course, that you could even find books on the subject, as the alarm monitoring field is specialized and there's not a lot of information out there that isn't just a simple product summary.

I'm very pleased to announce that T/Mon 6.3 software upgrade is now shipping. It went through an extensive beta cycle, but it is certainly worth the wait. This release features a major graphical user interface upgrade that ALL T/Mon Gold clients will benefit from. There are, of course, many other changes. Please read the article for additional information. A more comprehensive list of changes is provided in the release notes with the update.

We are presently going through the ISO9000 certification process. You will here more about that later. Keep your eyes open for some surveys that we will be sending as part of that process. Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

'Til next month,

Eric Storm, President of DPS Telecom
