Monitor Your Generators with this Modbus Master Station

In a power outage, your generators are what keep your systems online and your equipment running.

But how do you know that your generators will work exactly as you need them to, when you need them the most?

Good monitoring of your generators is the obvious answer, but you need to make sure that your monitoring system can get the job done.

Some monitoring systems are basic and send you cryptic alarm messages when there's a problem. But those alarms don't provide the essential information needed to quickly diagnose the problem. Is it a leak? Is it low fuel? Is it a gauge problem? How do you know how to fix a problem if you don't know what the problem is?

Modbus Diagram
In this diagram, your Modbus gear connects to the TempDefender G2. The TempDefender G2 mediates the Modbus to SNMP and sends it via LAN to your SNMP manager.

RTUs are a great option when handling a handful of devices. But, once you start trying to monitor 10 or more devices, you might want to consider a centralized master that is better equipped to handle the load.

For a larger network, you need to purchase a robust master station that can handle a SCADA/manufacturing environment. A Modbus-capable master will eliminate the need for mediators. Plus, with a high-capacity master, you can monitor dozens of RTUs, generators, switches and other equipment, all from one device.

One example of a robust, industrial master station is the T/Mon LNX from DPS Telecom.

  • Supports over 25 protocols: Modbus, DNP3, DCPX, TBOS, DCP, E2A, SNMP, ASCII, DCPF, TABS, TL1, and more.
  • Multiprotocol, multifunction single-platform solution for all remote alarm monitoring uses.
  • Collects alarm monitoring data from lots of different equipment throughout many manufacturers and protocols.
  • Mediate and forward remote alarm monitoring data to different protocols and HMI/master of masters.

T/Mon LNX can also manage all your other devices as well.

With T/Mon LNX, you can track important Modbus registers like:

  • Water temperature HIGH.
  • Oil pressure LOW.
  • Engine speed OVER.
  • Engine hours.
  • Battery voltage / alternator output.
  • Generator voltage AC.
  • Generator amps.
  • Fuel level LOW.
  • Overcrank error.
