TAC
TBOS-ASCII Combiner (TAC): Increase network efficiency by combining TBOS alarm data and ASCII maintenance data on a single channel.

Summary of Features

  • Combine ASCII maintenance and TBOS on one channel
  • Utilize unused order-wire channel for maintenance
  • Carry OC3/OC12 MUX alarms and craft data over OC48 order-wire
  • Carry Alcatel 3X50 alarms and craft data over Fujitsu order-wire
  • Ideal choice for interconnects
  • Change-Of-State combined with full update reporting keeps TBOS data current
  • Save circuits

Overview

TBOS-ASCII Combiner (TAC) increases network efficiency by combining TBOS alarm data and ASCII maintenance data on a single channel. You can put it to work on your network to support switches, PABXs, MUXs, fiber terminals, radios and other devices that use an ASCII "Craft Port" for maintenance and a TBOS serial port for alarms. Many users assign an unused "order-wire" channel for the TAC functions, making more channels available for revenue traffic and increasing maintenance accessibility to remote equipment.

COS Reporting
Using their extensive knowledge of TBOS reporting, DPS engineers have devised a change-of-state reporting scheme for the TAC. The slave TAC, located at the customer premise, transmits TBOS alarm data only when a point changes status and on preprogrammed "update" cycles. The master TAC, located at your central office, maintains an up-to-date database for instantaneous response to your TBOS alarm system. Because it is not constantly transferring TBOS data, the communications link is available for ASCII data transfer. When craft port maintenance is required, simply plug a laptop computer or other maintenance terminal into the master TAC's ASCII port and proceed with the task. TBOS alarms will continue to be reported, without any noticeable delay.

Discrete Alarm and Control Points
The TAC also provides four alarm points and two control points at each end that can be used for conventional alarms or for "point echo" applications.

"400" Module TAC
Multiple TACs can be clustered together at a central office "master" location with the MAS (Modular Alarm System) version of the TAC. Up to 12 TACs can be located in a single 400-shelf mounting, conserving space and power. In addition, other modules from the MAS product line can be used to mediate the TBOS data to TL1.

Display Mapping
TBOS data from the remote device can be remapped to any of the eight TBOS displays available on a TBOS port. This reduces the number of TBOS ports needed to gather alarms by allowing full utilization of all available displays on a TBOS port.
