Using Emergency Panic Buttons For Better Security

Do you need to provide a secure environment for your facility? Do you need a better way of limiting access to some areas and protecting your staff, patients, or customers in emergency situations? If so you should consider an emergency panic button system.

Providing a safe environment isn't a job that can be taken lightly. Leaving your restricted areas unmonitored and insecure is just asking for problems. And by not having emergency panic buttons, you run the risk of not getting the emergency response you need. You need an effective system that will provide more security to your facility.

Case study: Using Emergency Panic Buttons in Medical Alert Systems.
The VA Hospital in Fresno, CA provides high quality, prompt, and seamless care for the veterans in the community. In order to provide this level of care, the Fresno VA hospital needs to have a secure environment for its patients and employees.

To achieve this, the Fresno VA monitors entrances, exits, windows, and panic circuits throughout the facility. Roy Bacon is the hospital's biomedical engineering technician. He is responsible for ensuring the medical gear is working properly as well as coordinating the security alarm system to provide the security.

In order to prevent access to restricted areas, he deployed Discrete Point Modules. These DPMs act as a link between the physical alarm points and the emergency panic button system. If a door, window, or a single panic button is triggered, the DPM calls for outside emergency assistance.

Bacon wanted the fastest response time and the most efficient system performance, so he researched a way to centralize all of this alarm points. That way all of these vital alarms were collected in one central location. Each single alarm point could be viewed by any authorized user on the hospital's computer network.

The Fresno VA decided to use a master station to collect all of those alarms and provide an easy graphical interface for alarm management. This system has helped Bacon and the Fresno VA to provide a secure environment for the hospital's staff and its patients. If one of the alarms is triggered, or with the push of a button the hospitals emergency system will immediately contact emergency response teams.

With the right emergency panic buttons and auto-dialing panic alarm system, many patients and employees have directly benefited. Plus with a centralized master station, Bacon and the Fresno VA can easily expand and grow their monitoring network as the need arises.

Getting started with your own emergency alert system.
The first step to giving your facility the security it needs is to research your options and make the right choice. Just imagine how much easier your job would be, and how much safer your facility would be, if you had the right system in place to alert the authorities the instant there's a problem. Picture how much more secure your facility could be. With emergency panic buttons and auto-dialing security, you can provide a secure environment.

If you are interested in an emergency panic button system but do not know where to begin, do no worry. There are plenty of resources available, that will guide you in choosing the right solutions. First, I recommend taking a look at the free Auto-Dialers Tutorial White Paper.
