Controlled Migration From Legacy Monitoring to Advanced Monitoring

Controlled Migration From Legacy Monitoring to Advanced Monitoring

How to Turn a Dead-End Legacy System Into A Proactive Modern System in 2 Steps

You can transform your legacy monitoring system into an advanced modern system in just 2 steps. Or 3 or 4 or 5 steps, if that makes more sense for your budget. On this upgrade path, you control the pace of migration, so you can update your entire network monitoring system without taking dangerous financial risks.

Upgrade to T/Mon NOC and you can gradually migrate your master and RTUs from legacy to modern over several budget cycles, with no forklift swap outs. You can preserve your capital expenditure budget - buy and install equipment as your manpower permits - and save your emergency budget for emergencies.

When migration is complete, you'll have a viable, fully supported system based on today's technology that can expand to meet your future needs, backed by the best client support in the industry. You'll escape the legacy trap and never be caught in it again.

Here's how controlled migration works:

Replace Your Failing Legacy Master with a New IAM-5

Step 1: Replace Your Failing Legacy Master with a New T/Mon NOC, and Immediately Take Your Existing Network to a Higher Level of Reliability and Network Visibility

Replace your failing legacy master with a new T/Mon NOC. You don't have to replace a single RTU. You'll immediately have stable, more productive polling of your existing remotes.

T/Mon NOC is a contemporary, multi-user, multiprotocol master uniquely designed as a single platform for all your monitoring equipment. T/Mon NOC supports a wide variety of equipment, regardless of manufacturer or protocol, even remotes that are no longer supported by their original manufacturer.

DPS Telecom supports over 20 standard, proprietary, and legacy protocols. If you need to use a protocol we don't currently support, that's no problem - we can design a custom solution, at no risk or expense to you.

With T/Mon NOC you'll also have the benefit of advanced alarm processing features, like nuisance alarm filtering, alarm qualification, alarm silencing, after-hours monitoring, and automatic notification - all with your existing RTUs. You can use these features immediately, taking your current monitoring network to a new level of productivity.

With the durable reliability of T/Mon NOC, plus the backing of DPS Telecom's first-rate technical support, you'll no longer have the creeping anxiety of wondering when your master will fail. And upgrading to T/Mon NOC will effectively extend the useful life of your legacy RTUs - you can continue to use your legacy RTUs right up to the end of their working life, instead of having to scrap them when your legacy master dies.

Best of all, the initial costs of replacing your master alone is 7 to 10 times less than the cost of a forklift swap out

Gradually Replace Your Legacy Remotes with Modern DPS Telecom Units

Step 2: Gradually Replace Your Legacy Remotes with Modern DPS Telecom Units, as Your Budget and Installation Capacity Permits

Replace your RTUs with advanced DPS Telecom units at your own pace. Since T/Mon NOC supports both your old legacy remotes and new modern remotes, you can run both side by side, gradually introducing modern remotes as your budget and installation capacity permits. You don't have to deal with the huge capital expenditure of a forklift swap out, and you don't have to turn over remotes at a breakneck pace.

It's called controlled migration because it gives you control. You control how much and when you spend on new equipment. You control how much you spend on the personnel and transport costs of installation. You control which parts of your network are upgraded and when, so you control the impact on network visibility.

A forklift swap out will devastate your CAP-X, OP-X, and emergency budgets - controlled migration will preserve your budgets. With a forklift swap out, you have no return on investment on a large expenditure while you're waiting for all those remotes to be installed - with controlled migration, you have immediate return on investment.

Controlled migration also makes the best use of your remaining legacy remotes. Legacy remotes that are taken offline can be stored and used for spare parts for your operational legacy remotes. You can keep your legacy remotes operating as long as possible, giving you maximum return on your investment in your old system.

At the same time, you have an open-ended upgrade path for the future that will free you from dependency on your legacy system. You can add new capabilities as you need them - expand your monitoring system as your network grows - and never worry that a mechanical breakdown will sideline your network monitoring for good.
