Basic Knowledge of Telecom Industry

Telecommunications, or telecom, is the industry that deals with the communication channels resposible for exchanging information via electronic systems across long distances.

Typically, telecom service systems consist of a transmitter at one site and a receiver at another. The two transmit information through wires or wireless options such as a LAN connection. For complex systems, the transmitter and receivers can becombined and located at each site. This is called a transceiver and allows each site to send, as well as receive signals.

Examples of telecom companies include telephone providers, cable providers, internet service providers and more. Some telecom companies are even in charge of maintaining emergency broadcast systems. Their main objective is to provide their clients with reliable telecommunications services.

Learn more about telecom:

  • Telecom Tools Kits

Telecom techs require specialized tools for the work they do. Lineman's handset, electrical multimeter, and cable crimper are a few such tools that make it possible to safely test equipment and lines to ensure that the network stays functional.

  • Telecom Reseller

Telecom reseller is any company that purchases and re-sells communications equipment or transmission capacities from larger network carriers and equipment manufacturers. Telecom resellers can provide surprising benefits for the client.

  • Telecom Installer

Trained individuals who can install telecom equipment are often referred to as Linemen. These highly-skilled techs are hard to come by and are crucial to maintaining telecom networks.

Reliable network monitoring is a critical aspect of the telecom industry

The telecom industry is a service industry, meaning they do not provide the customer with a tangible product, but instead perform a managed service, such as access to internet connections or phone connections. It is crucial that their network remain online and they can be fined large amounts for network downtime.

Network reliability is the crucial driver of customer satisfaction. It doesn't matter how low your prices are. If your network services are not reliable, then you will drive customers away. While this concept may be the cornerstone of your business, how can you ensure that your network is in fact running at 100% capacity at all times?

Your problem, as a telecommunications provider, is never that your network is going to have issues. That's a given. Equipment eventually breaks; weather can have adverse effects on your network, and there's the occasional user error. (We're all human.)

The problem is that you don't necessarily know when, where, or why problems are occurring if your sites aren't monitored. This results in a number of site visits that may be unnecessary or due to problems that could've been prevented.

But if you know when, where, and why your network is having issues, you'll be able to intelligently dispatch the right people with the right tools. They'll quickly fix problems that arise in your network and prevent unnecessary truck rolls. A strong network management system will provide you with the information you need to limit trips to your sites and keep your network going strong, lowering your expenses and protecting (if not increasing) your revenue.

Therefore, with proper network monitoring, telecom companies can drastically reduce the amount of network downtime they have, thus improving their customer service.

If you're a telecom provider company looking for a reliable monitoring solution, be sure it has the functionality you need. Features such as a web browser interface, nuisance alarm filtering and detailed, 24/7 alarm notifications will ensure that you're the first to be notified of network trouble. Systems with features such as this will save you time and money, as well as customers.

So, to guard against expensive downtime and otherwise preventable equipment failure, implement a robust network monitoring system for fault detection.

How network monitoring can save you tons

Now you've realized just how great the savings could be. The first step is to choose the right system. Too many monitoring solutions fail to see the big picture, and leave out critical features. These limited systems will only give you a false sense of security, but in reality you're just as exposed as you are with no monitoring system.

Take a few minutes to learn the essentials, because arming yourself with the right information will protect you from making costly mistakes in the future. It's essential to understand what features are important in a monitoring system and how to go about implementing the right system, so you can benefit from the lowest insurance rates possible.
