Reserve Your Seat TodaySome of the biggest issues involved with network monitoring are the abilities to guarantee a reliable connection. Without the options for a hard-wired system that most larger, or remote locations lack, many companies have turned to wireless monitoring.
One of the more common routes for consumers to take involves connecting a wireless RTU to the Master Station via WI-FI, while many in industrial settings prefer to transmit data via cellular service providers.
Both routes deliver many benefits over a standard, hard-wired connection. One of the benefits many organizations have come to experience, is the ability to expand your infrastructure quickly. Another added benefit of having an internal modem as opposed to external devices that has been identified, is the possibility of lowering installation costs, no need to connect multiple pieces of equipment together, and being able to avoid adding more devices where potential issues may occur.
Wireless units intended to be used with a LAN connection allow a direct connection to the Master Station either through the network, or through a Wi-Fi connection to the internet that would easily facilitate remote monitoring from anywhere around the globe.
Cellular RTUs are designed to communicate with their Master Station via standard cellular networks that are already in place. This allows remote monitoring without the need to install costly equipment in order to connect the systems together. Another added benefit with this option is the ability to communicate directly with the Master Station as well as technicians directly via text message.
SMS correspondence allows for an inexpensive means of communication across great distances. This is especially helpful in situations where immediate response is crucial, such as in the event of device failures, security breaches, and potentially hazardous situations. Another perk of utilizing cellular networks in connections and notifications is the fact that in the event of a LAN failure or excessive loads, contact with repair crews can still be maintained.
Cellular-based RTUs can be designed to work with either GSM or CDMA networks. All of these options allow for a more versatile and reliable system of network monitoring. The CellVoice 16, NetDog G2, and NetGuardian 832a are three such wireless RTUs that have either GSM or CDMA capabilities.
While many companies offer their version of wireless RTUs, be sure to find one that supports your needs, allows you room for growth, and is backed by a knowledgeable support team to assist you in all stages of including wireless components into your network monitoring system.
