Reserve Your Seat TodayAre you a security-conscious organization looking for ways to add visibility to remote sites, but you're worried that remote monitoring equipment might compromise your network integrity?
In a new (and custom) application for a major US power company, DPS Telecom designed firmware for a new polling application with NetGuardian RTUs. The client wanted to deploy NetGuardian LT RTUs at several remote sites and use a NetGuardian 16 to collect alarms (via GSM/CDMA using a cellular interface, like the Raven X) through autonomous polling. Note: Autonomous polling over GSM or CDMA requires a data plan.
This custom application allows this power company to report alarms originating from remote sites to contact closures to tie into their existing monitoring infrastructure. It also cuts their costs with fewer truck rolls (through robust monitoring) and by reducing their wireless usage (which was becoming a large expense) by transporting alarms over their cell network.
Echo Application Over LAN
This application isn't only limited to autonomous polling over GSM/CDMA. The NetGuardian LT can be used to collect alarms at remote sites then echo the alarms over LAN to the NetGuardian 16 - allowing you to bypass interfacing with a cellular gateway if it's not entirely necessary.
This version of the application is better suited for the sites in your network that have the practical infrastructure for LAN. The relays on the NetGuardian 16 operate when an alarm from one of the alarms on a NetGuardian LT is triggered - giving you superior visibility at your remote sites without the cost of laying copper from each site back to your NOC.
Secure Firmware Features for Network Protection
Because this client needed additional layers of protection for their network, they needed an "IP Lockdown Mode" to be included in the firmware. This lockdown mode was designed to lockdown all communications (Web access, Telnet, dialup, and email notifications, etc.) with the RTU in the event of a security emergency.
By going through the Telnet TTY interface, the client can quickly deactivate all communication channels for the units. This custom solution provides the critical alarm visibility this company needs, while increasing their network's security.
Have a Unique Project?
Just because you have a unique monitoring need, doesn't mean your network needs to go unmonitored and vulnerable. DPS specializes in creating custom firmware and software applications for remote monitoring and control projects. This means you get equipment and solutions designed to work for you - not against you.
