Wireless RTUs

If you manage remote sites, you know how important it is to always have situational awareness. Even if LAN fails (or you don't have LAN available at a site), you must continue to receive alarm notifications.

One possible alarm reporting path is GSM/CDMA cellular wireless. DPS has several RTUs that support cellular if you prefer that technology (ex. maybe you have just a few sites and they all have cell coverage). Some companies, however, have decided against cellular wireless.

Wifi RTUs

For many technicians, being able to view the alarms at a remote site means having to drive out to a site and plug into a device, or even paying a visit to the NOC. For those in the field, this could mean costly windshield-time that could've easily been avoided.

Imagine being able to pull up to a remote site in your normal route, turning on a laptop or smart-phone and being able to instantly check up on the alarm statuses of your gear. Now, what if you didn't even have to get out of your truck? Sounds nice, doesn't it?

With the ever-growing capabilities of mobile devices, the ability to incorporate them into your alarm monitoring system has become a great way to improve efficiency while increasing profits. Without having to waste time on entering sites to check alarms, or driving back to the NOC to check on each site, technicians are now able to accomplish more work in the same amount of time. Reducing windshield-time by eliminating the need for excess mileage, you can also save money by not having to pay for as much time spent driving, gas, or vehicle maintenance.

By incorporating a wifi-capable unit into the design of an RTU, you create a wifi network that allows a device to link directly to it without the need for an extended LAN or a costly data-plan with a local service provider.
