SNMPv3 Support in the New NetGuardian 832A G5

Fresno, Calif. -- DPS Telecom, a leading developer of network alarm monitoring solutions, recently announced that its NetGuardian 832A G5 RTU now includes advanced support for SNMPv3.

The NetGuardian G5 can report alarms in SNMP v1, v2c, or v3. This allows you to report alarms effectively, no matter what SNMP version you are using.

You have the ability to choose which SNMP versions are permitted to communicate with your NetGuardian. By allowing v3 access only, you require all users and SNMP managers to use the protocol's enhanced security. In situations where security is less of a concern, you can choose to allow all SNMP versions.

SNMPv3 is the most secure version of SNMP, and the NetGuardian 832A G5 platform encrypts its messages with CBC-DES encryption, a part of the Universal Security Model (USM).

The NetGuardian 832A G5's ability to provide security is enhanced by its support of up to four v3 user profiles. Each user is assigned a unique set of security parameters, including authentication and/or privileged access. Authentication can be based on the MD5 or SHA algorithm. With either option, messages may be encrypted using DES 56-bit encryption based on the CBC-DES standard, allowing for maximum security and flexibility.

The encrypted data appears scrambled if it is intercepted, rendering it unreadable by anyone but the intended recipient. This form of encryption makes SNMPv3 your best form of protection when routing SNMP messages over the Internet. This is essential for companies that require high levels of security, authorization, and access control.

The new NetGuardian 832A G5 now offers a whole range of reporting options, including SNMPv3, email, pager, and DCP protocol, over LAN, serial, and dial up.

The NetGuardian 832A G5 uses the same DPS MIBs as previous generations, allowing you to make a smooth transition to SNMPv3 in your network. If you already own an earlier model of the NetGuardian 832A, you will not have to add new MIBs to your manager to add v3 support for the NetGuardian 832A G5 (previous generations of the 832A support SNMP v1 & v2c only).

The new 64-point NetGuardian 864A also supports SNMPv3, making it easier than ever to monitor more devices and report alarms securely. For more information about SNMPv3 RTUs,visit:

Introducing the NetGuardian 832A G6: A Leap Forward in Remote Monitoring

Building upon the proven performance of the NetGuardian 832A G5, the G6 model introduces cutting-edge enhancements to ensure that your network monitoring infrastructure remains future-proof. Here's how the G6 version elevates your capabilities:

  1. Enhanced Processing Power

The NetGuardian 832A G6 features a faster processor than the G5, ensuring quicker alarm reporting and smooth integration with demanding network environments. This performance boost enables real-time data handling and enhanced responsiveness when managing network alarms.

  2. Improved Security Features

Security remains at the forefront with full support for SNMPv3, which the G6 takes even further by including advanced encryption protocols like TLS v1.2 for web interfaces. This ensures secure and authenticated communication between your remote monitoring unit and network management system.

  3. Expanded Transport Options

The G6 model offers versatile transport options, including dual SFP fiber interfaces and wireless connectivity. These additions provide enhanced flexibility for alarm reporting in environments that may lack Ethernet infrastructure, accommodating long-distance and high-speed transport needs.

  4. Advanced Sensor Integration

While the G5 offered essential analog and discrete input capabilities, the G6 includes built-in support for D-Wire sensors. This addition allows for easy monitoring of environmental variables such as temperature, humidity, and airflow, making the G6 a comprehensive monitoring solution for diverse site conditions.

  5. Increased Capacity for Growing Networks

The G6 model continues to support expansion via NetGuardian DX units. This scalable approach lets you start small and grow your monitoring capabilities without overhauling your existing infrastructure. For example, the G6 can manage up to 176 discrete alarms with expansion units, a significant increase from its base capacity.

  6. User-Friendly Updates

The G6's intuitive web interface has been upgraded to provide faster access to configuration and real-time monitoring data. Unlike the G5, the G6 integrates an improved LCD screen and user controls for local diagnostics, giving technicians a powerful tool for on-site troubleshooting.

  7. Reliability Across Extreme Conditions

For industries operating in harsh environments, the G6 offers an industrial temperature version that functions reliably from -30 C to 70 C. This upgrade ensures that the G6 is ready to handle the most challenging field conditions.

Why Upgrade to the G6?

The NetGuardian 832A G6 is designed to ensure operational continuity and efficiency. Whether you need to secure remote sites, integrate additional sensors, or adapt to modern network protocols, the G6 provides a future-proof platform for your network monitoring needs. By upgrading from the G5, you unlock features that reduce manual effort, improve scalability, and enhance the security of your monitoring operations.
